Why use an ND filter?
Neutral density (ND) filters are among the most essential tools in photography and video. They reduce the amount of light entering the lens, allowing for more precise control over exposure.
For photographers, ND filters make it possible to use slower shutter speeds or wider apertures in bright conditions, enabling greater creative flexibility. For video creators, they are key to maintaining a natural look by matching shutter speed to frame rate, while preserving the desired depth of field.
Choose the Hoya HD Mk II IRND64 for motion blur and long exposure
The HD Mk II IRND64 filter is designed for capturing motion and creating smooth blur effects. It is ideal for photographing moving subjects such as flowing water, waves, or people in motion.
Without an ND filter, these movements often appear frozen due to fast shutter speeds in bright conditions. While stopping down the aperture (e.g. f/16 or f/22) can help reduce light, it may introduce diffraction and reduce overall image sharpness.
In addition, when using fast lenses or cameras with a minimum ISO of 200, it can be difficult to achieve a slow enough shutter speed for motion blur.
By reducing light by 6 stops, the HD Mk II IRND64 allows you to use optimal aperture settings while achieving slower shutter speeds. This results in smooth, natural rendering of motion without compromising image quality.
Features of the HD Mk II IRND64 (1.8) ND Filter

Digital water- and oil repellent anti-reflection multi-coating
The HD Mk II IRND series features an advanced anti-reflection multi-coating that minimizes unwanted reflections and flare. It also includes a water- and oil-repellent coating, making the filter easy to clean and resistant to smudges and dirt for reliable use in demanding conditions.

HD low-profile frame
The HD Mk II IRND series features an ultra-thin, lightweight aluminum frame designed to significantly reduce the risk of vignetting, even when used with wide-angle lenses. The precision-engineered frame also includes a front filter thread, allowing additional filters to be stacked when needed without compromising usability.
