The Summicron-SL lenses feature a fast, precise, and nearly silent autofocus (AF) system, enabled by a shared autofocus drive unit. This system’s performance is influenced by the mass of the lens elements, the focusing range, and available space, requiring a compact, integrated design.
An interdisciplinary team of optical, mechanical, and electronic specialists developed a unique double internal focusing concept with two lightweight focusing lenses, allowing for small and efficient drive systems.
The system employs robust stepping motors with Dual Syncro Drive™ technology, ensuring rapid and precise focusing by quickly adjusting lens positions based on contrast measurements. As a result, Summicron-SL lenses deliver outstanding speed, accuracy, and minimal noise, ranking among the best in the full-frame camera segment.
