Introduction
In a world saturated with images, this workshop proposes a slower, more intentional approach to photography. Rather than chasing moments, we will approach photography as a process of research into identity, community, and into your own visual language. The day is structured around my conceptual building blocks that inform my long-term practice: Identity Intention Value Love Doubt Patience Consistency Serendipity
Since the beginning of my practice in Los Angeles, photography has functioned as a form of research. Not only into the communities I engage with, but equally into my own visual language. Identity, in this sense, is not a fixed subject to be represented; it is a layered construct that reveals itself through detail, repetition, and proximity. The gesture of moving closer; to a face, to a hand, to a surface, becomes a tone of voice.
As a photographer and bookmaker, I am particularly attentive to the relationship between form and content. I am drawn to work that carries emotional weight while maintaining visual clarity, and to books in which design decisions emerge from the conceptual logic of the work itself; where form follows function.
Throughout the day, we will examine how images form meaning when placed in relation to one another. Editing and sequencing will be central: how rhythm is established across frames, how visual motifs generate coherence, and how a series begins to articulate a position rather than
merely display images.
Workshop organized as part of the BSPF (Brussels Street Photography Festival).
Goal of the workshop
- A clear intention: what you are researching and reasons why.
- A structured 4–6 image mini-series, properly edited and sequenced.
- Insight into how identity is built through detail, repetition, and proximity.
- Real experience engaging subjects with presence and respect.
- Doubt reframed as calibration, not weakness.
- A method grounded in patience and consistency.
- Greater clarity about their visual language.
- Meaning comes from sustained attention, not accident.
