Discover the Ksana series
The Ksana Series takes its name from the Sanskrit word kṣaṇa, meaning a brief instant in time. It reflects the idea of capturing a precise, fleeting moment, at the very core of photography.
Designed to be ultra-light and compact, Ksana lenses are ideal for everyday use and spontaneous shooting. Each lens features a distinctive vintage-style coating, giving images a unique character and helping photographers capture moments with clarity, emotion, and consistency in their visual approach.
What are the key features of the Ksana 21mm F/3.5?
90.6° Ultra-Wide Angle
Designed specifically for M-mount cameras, the Ksana 21mm offers a 91° ultra-wide angle of view. It is well suited for landscapes, street photography, architecture, and interior scenes, allowing photographers to capture broad perspectives with a strong sense of space and immersion.
Lightweight design
With a weight of just 131 g and a 27 mm ultra-slim profile, the Ksana 21mm is designed for comfortable handheld use over long periods. Its compact form makes it an ideal lens for travel, street photography, and everyday visual documentation.
Advanced optical design
The Ksana 21mm balances a vintage image character with high optical precision. Its 8 elements in 6 groups design, including 1 aspherical element, 2 ED lenses, and 3 high-refractive-index elements, ensures high resolution with low distortion and chromatic aberration. A gold coating helps control flare and ghosting, preserving contrast and clarity in varied lighting conditions.
Precise focusing for street and close-range photography
The Ksana 21mm f/3.5 delivers a wide 80.2° horizontal field of view on full-frame cameras, enhancing the sense of space and visual impact. With a 0.5 m minimum focusing distance, rangefinder coupling, and an ergonomic crescent focusing lever, it enables fast and precise manual focusing, making it well suited for close details, street photography, and environmental portraits with strong spatial depth.
Rangefinder-coupled focusing with 0.7 m tactile indicator
Designed for Leica M cameras, the lens preserves the traditional rangefinder experience for both film and digital use. A tactile focus indicator at 0.7 m signals the point where the rangefinder coupling disengages, prompting a switch to EVF focusing. This feature helps avoid focusing errors and ensures consistent, reliable results at close distances.
Epoch Coating 73: 1970s Cinema-Inspired Vintage Rendering
As the first lens in the Ksana series, the 21mm f/3.5 combines a classic optical design with a distinctive vintage image character, housed in a compact all-aluminum body made for everyday use on Leica M cameras.
At the core of its visual identity is Epoch Coating 73, a specialized coating developed to recreate the aesthetic signature of 1970s cinema and photographic lenses. Inspired by historical Japanese coating techniques and Thypoch’s heritage in cinema optics, it produces warm golden-amber flares, layered highlights, and a softer tonal transition while preserving overall image control.
This coating brings a subtle cinematic atmosphere to still photography, giving each image a timeless, expressive character without compromising precision.
Design of the Ksana 21mm F/3.5
The Ksana 21mm f/3.5 features a vintage-inspired metal body with a scalloped focus ring and a crescent-shaped focusing tab. Its ergonomic design follows the natural position of the fingers, providing comfortable handling and precise control, even during quick focus adjustments.
The lens is available in Silver, with a strong mechanical character, and Black, offering a discreet and timeless appearance.
